UPDATE:

On January 3rd, 2025, about a month after the company's last recall, Blue Ridge Beef recalled more pet food due to Salmonella contamination. This time, they recalled 1,350 pounds of 1b log Kitten Mix with a lot code of N25-0716 and a UPC 8542980013436. Follow the same precautions as with the puppy food from the other recall.

ORIGINAL POST:

On December 2nd, 2024, Blue Ridge Beef voluntarily recalled some of their raw dog food due to Salmonella contamination. This issue occurred after a litter of puppies got sick from eating this food. The food then tested positive for Salmonella. Salmonella can be dangerous to both people and pets, so dog parents should proceed with caution.

Which Product was Recalled?

Blue Ridge Beef has recalled certain lots of their 2 lb log Puppy Mix formulas. The recalled food has a lot # of 08/06/N25 & 08/16/N25 and a UPC of 854298001696. No other products and lot codes are affected at this time.

This raw food comes in log-shaped clear bags. You can find the lot # stamped onto the clips on the ends of the bags.

Blue Ridge Beef distributed the products between August 6th and August 23rd, 2024. They were sold in retail stores in New York, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

Risks of Salmonella for People and Pets

Salmonella affects both the animals eating the food and the people handling it. Pets with Salmonella could experience lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. They may also have a decreased appetite and abdominal pain. Pets carrying Salmonella without showing symptoms can still pass it to humans and other animals.

Humans with Salmonella could face nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, it could lead to serious conditions, such as arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, urinary tract issues, eye irritation, and muscle pain.

If any humans or pets in your household display unusual symptoms after coming into contact with the recalled food, seek medical care right away. Even though symptoms after often minor, it's always better to be safe than sorry with your loved ones' health.

What to Do with the Recalled Food

Anyone with the recalled food should dispose of the food in a way that no people, pets, or wild animals can access it. They can also return it to their place of purchase. Do not feed the food to any pets and do not donate it (since it's a safety hazard).

Thoroughly clean anything the food came into contact with, such as bowls, counters, containers, and measuring cups. Then, always wash your hands after handling the food.
