RECALL: Dog Chews Have Salmonella Risk

Best Buy Bones, Inc., a pet treat brand from Mount Morris, Michigan recently recalled some of their products due to potential Salmonella contamination. Salmonella can pose a risk to both pets and humans, so it's important to act accordingly if you have these recalled products. The FDA announced this recall on October 3rd, 2025.
Which Products Were Recalled?
The company recalled four lots of their Nature’s Own Pet Chews Bully Bites 1 Pound treats. They come in a resealable 16 oz pouch that's 11” high, 9.5” wide, and 3.5” deep. The UPC# is 739598900750, the best by date is September 2027, and the lot numbers are 19379, 19380, 19381, and 19382.
Best Buy Bones shipped the products out of Minnesota and sold them to stores in Wisconsin. When samples were taken of these products on September 11th, 2025, they tested positive for Salmonella. The company stopped production of these treats and issued a recall while they investigate the root of the problem.
Luckily, no illnesses have been reported so far. Currently, no other products are affected besides the ones listed above.
Risks of Salmonella for Pets and People
Pets who eat the contaminated food may experience lethargy, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, appetite loss, and abdominal pain. Even if a pet shows no symptoms, they can pass Salmonella to people and other pets. If your pet consumed the recalled products, it's a good idea to visit your vet for a checkup just to be safe.
People infected with Salmonella could experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramping, and fever, In rare cases, it could lead to serious conditions, such as infections, muscle pain, arthritis, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. If you experience any unusual symptoms after coming into contact with contaminated pet treats, visit a healthcare provider as soon as you can.
What to Do with the Recalled Treats
If you purchased Nature’s Own Pet Chews Bully Bites 1 Pound treats after September 23rd, 2025, you probably have the recalled products. You can check the lot number and best by date on the bag to verify. You can return the treats to your place of purchase or dispose of them in a way that no animals or people can access them.
Always thoroughly wash your hands after handling contaminated pet treats. Also, make sure to sanitize anything the treats touched, such as counters, storage containers, and bowls.
