Viva Raw LLC recalled some dog and cat food products back in July 2024 due to the contamination of Listeria monocytogenes. Now, the company issued a similar recall. On August 25th, 2025, Viva Raw LLC voluntarily recalled two lots of dog and cat food because of Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.
Which Products Were Recalled?
The following Viva Raw products are being recalled:
Ground Beef for Dogs – Lot 21495
Beef & Turkey Recipe for Puppies – Lot 21495
Ground Chicken for Dog – Lot 21975
Chunked Chicken for Dogs – Lot 21975
Chicken for Cats – Lot 21975
Pure Chicken – Lot 21975
No other products are currently affected by this recall. Viva Raw is a subscription service, so most of these products were shipped directly to consumers nationwide from July 2, 2025 and August 21, 2025. A small number went to retailers in NY, IL, SC, FL, KS, CA, and AZ.
North Carolina Department of Agriculture's routine testing determined the potential for contamination.
These products are frozen 1-pound containers with clear packaging. You can find the lot number listed on the top of the packaging. Luckily, no illnesses have been reported due to the recall at this time.
Risks to Pets and Humans
Both Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes can harm the pets eating the food and the humans handling the products. Pets infected with either could experience symptoms like lethargy, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, lack of appetite, and abdominal pain. Even if your pet appears healthy, they can still pass the bacteria to humans and other pets. If your pet has eaten the recalled food, visit a vet just to be safe.
Infected humans could experience symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. In extreme cases, the bacteria could lead to serious conditions like arthritis, endocarditis, arterial infections, muscle pain, and urinary tract issues. If you notice any unusual symptoms after coming into contact with the contaminated food, visit a healthcare professional.
What to Do with the Recalled Products
Thoroughly wash your hands after handling the contaminated food. Sanitize any surfaces the food touched, such as bowls, food storage containers, and utensils. Dispose of the food in a way that no pets, humans, or wildlife can access it. Never sell or donate the recalled products.
If you have any of the recalled products, contact Viva Raw at info@vivarawpets.com for a full refund. For questions, you can email Viva Raw or call/text them at (919) 371-8882 from 9 am to 5 pm EST Monday through Friday.
