The Dangers of Salmonella and Listeria
Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes can harm both humans and animals. Symptoms are usually worse in humans, and pets not showing symptoms could still pass the bacteria to humans and other animals. Thus, it's crucial to make sure you're not serving recalled food to your pet.
Pets with Salmonella may experience lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and a decreased appetite. Infected humans could experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In extreme cases, it could lead to more serious health concerns in humans, such as muscle pain, eye irritation, urinary tract issues, arthritis, and arterial infections.
Pets with Listeria monocytogenes may experience minor symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea. Infected humans may experience fever, headache, muscle pain, stiffness, nausea, diarrhea, and confusion. It's most dangerous for kids, pregnant people, elderly people, and anyone with a weakened immune system.
If you or your pet is showing unusual symptoms after coming into contact with the recalled food, it's best to contact a medical professional right away.
What to Do with the Recalled Products
If you have the recalled food, dispose of it in a way that children, pets, and wildlife can't access it. It's safest to handle the food while wearing gloves. Sanitize anything that came into contact with the food, such as bowls, counters, measuring cups, and storage containers.
To get a refund for these products, take a photo of the receipt and product packaging if possible. Send that information, along with where you purchased it from, to info@answerspetfood.com. You can also send an email with additional questions related to this recall.
